CNPC Sends Oil Supplies to China‘s Quake-Stricken Gansu Province

State-owned China National Petroleum Corp said Thursday that it has sent extra supplies of oil products to quake-stricken Gansu province in northwest China.

On Wednesday it sent 40 trucks with 3,000 mt (22,350 barrels) of gasoil to Minxian county near Dingxi city, where the 5.9 magnitude temblor struck Monday, and also increased oil product supplies by 2,000 mt through its Lan-Cheng-Yu pipeline.

CNPC said oil product stocks in the quake-hit area are currently over 30,000 mt and can meet over 10 days of demand.

CNPC added that it had instructed its oil product retail service stations to operate 24 hours and not to impose any supply restrictions to rescue personnel.

Fellow state-owned oil giant Sinopec or China Petrochemical Corp., said Wednesday that it had also dispatched oil products delivery trucks to the area to ensure supply availability. It did not specify volumes.

Xinhua news agency said in a report late Wednesday that 22 people had been rescued from debris. The death toll stood at 95, while over 1,400 people were injured. Electricity and telecommunication facilities had been restored on Wednesday morning, it added.
