CNOOC Discovers Oil and Gas in China‘s Bohai Sea

China National Offshore Oil (CNOOC) has made two new exploration discoveries, Bozhong 8-4 and Kenli 10-4, in the Bohai Sea, offshore of China.

Bozhong 8-4 is in the west slope of Bozhong Sag in Bohai with an average water depth of about 28m, while Kenli 10-4 is on the south slope of Laizhou Bay Sag in Bohai with an average water depth of about 15m.

Discovery well Bozhong 8-4-4, which was drilled to a depth of 1,962m, encountered oil pay zones and a gas reservoir with a total thickness of about 50m and 11m respectively.

During the test period, oil production of the well was around 660 barrels per day.

Discovery well Kenli 10-4-1, which was drilled to a depth of 2,395m, encountered oil pay zones with a total thickness of about 45m.

During the test period, oil production of the well was around 2,800 barrels per day.

COONC executive vice president and exploration department general manager, Zhu Weilin, said discovery of Bozhong 8-4 and KL 10-4 has extended the company's effective exploration activities in Bohai and further proven the rich oil and natural gas resources in the area.

In January 2013, CNOOC started production at two oil fields in the Pearl River Mouth Basin of the South China Sea.

The two fields are Panyu 4-2/5-1 oil field adjustment project and Liuhua 4-1 oil field.

Located at an average water depth of about 100m, the Panyu 4-2/5-1 oil field adjustment project is expected to begin peak production in 2014.
