Sinopec Licenses Lyondellbasell''s Technologies for New Chinese Plants

China Petrochemical Corporation (Sinopec) has licensed LyondellBasell's polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene (PE) technologies for four new plants.

The state-owned oil refining and petrochemical enterprise will deploy the LyondellBasell's Spherizone PP and Lupotech PE process technologies at facilities planned in Zhanjiang, Dachang and Jinshan, China.

LyondellBasell Olefins and Polyolefins - Europe, Asia, International and Technology executive vice president Bob Patel said the company's polyolefin technologies are among the most reliable, efficient and cost-effective in the world.

"Sinopec's selection of one Spherizone PP license and three Lupotech A PE/EVA [ethylene vinyl acetate] process technology licenses, for their four new facilities in China, attests to the trust customers place in our technology portfolio for innovation and performance," Patel added.

Spherizone offers premium products through multizone circulating reactor technology with excellent operability and low operating costs, while Lupotech offers high pressure tubular and autoclave process technology for production of high-quality low density polyethylene (LDPE) and EVA copolymers.

The proposed facilities are scheduled for a 2016 start-up.

Apart from the Spherizone and Lupotech process technologies, LyondellBasell offers Spheripol polypropylene technology for the production of homopolymer, random and heterophasic copolymers.

The US chemical company's Metocene PP technology is used to manufacture specialty polypropylene products using single-site catalyst systems, while Hostalen, a low-pressure slurry process, is used for production of high-performance multimodal high-density polyethylene (HDPE).

The company's flexible, gas-phase process technology, Spherilene, is used to manufacture LLDPE, HDPE and medium-density polyethylene (MDPE).
