The shipping industry is not only a major contributor to the air pollution choking many port cities, but also one of the fastest growing sources of transport greenhouse gas emissions. Shipping emissions are predicted to grow by 50% to 250% by 2050depending on future economic and energy developments.

As an environmentally friendly energy source, demand for LNG as a fuel in the shipping industry is increasing, due to emissions reduction requirements scheduled to come into force in January 2015. The new fuel will also enable the industry to comply with future regulations

With the Paris climate deal, LNG as a clean fuel is one of alternative energy sources to lower carbon emissions and curb other climate pollutants. Stimulated by the expectation and perspective of the high-speed growth of global LNG fueled vessels industry and of an increasing number of LNG powered ships will be favored and in operation, Europe and America, Korea, Singapore and China, ect, are making positive policies to support and encourage the LNG ship industry.

China's Ministry of Transport (MOT) released an Implementation Plan for Emission Control Zones(ECZs) that lays out a roadmap to require ships calling at major mainland Chinese ports to switch to lower sulfur fuel. The plan will apply to merchant ships navigating or anchoring in the waters of Pearl River Delta, Yangtze River Delta and the Bohai Bay rim, with a goal to cut sulphur dioxide by 65 percent and particulate by 30% by 2020 from the 2015 level. The plan proposes that the central government and local government will make the capital subsidy to the industry and supporting policies.
