On August 16, 2006, the office meeting of State Council presided by Premier WEN Jiabao deliberated and adopted Mid-term and Long-term Development Plan for Ship Industry, which specified “to build COSCO Lushun Shipbuilding Base”. For the sake of fulfilling the requirements of Mid-term and Long-term Development Plan for Ship Industry and realizing the state strategic thought of striving for a world No.1 shipbuilding power, pursuant to the strategic decision of Central Committee of CPC, i.e. “to revitalize the old industrial bases in the Northeast”, China Ocean Shipping (Group) Company (COSCO) decided to invest and establish “Dalian COSCO Shipbuilding Industry Co.,Ltd.” In Yangtouwa Region, Lushunkou, Dalian, Liaoning Province.
With a construction period of three years and a total investment 6.55 billion Yuan, Dalian COSCO Shipyard has a planned plant side covering a land area of 1,800,000?， with the seas area of 1,500,000? and a total floorage of 440,000?. The construction scale is an annual shipbuilding of 2,400,000DWT, an annual steel processing volume of 400,000 tons and an annual yield of 12 ships. The project plans to commence in 2008 and complete for first ship at the end of 2010.
Dalian COSCO Shipbuilding Industry Co.,Ltd. draws on the experience of Nantong COSCO KHI Ship Engineering Co.,Ltd. (NACKS) and will mainly engage in building the large ocean ships of high added value like 180,000-tonnage and above bulk carriers, VLCCs, VLOCs, and 10000TEU and above container ships by utilizing the world advanced shipbuilding technology, manufacturing processes and management systems.
