Location | Oseberg, North Sea |
Project Status:
As of February 2009, StatoilHydro has been given the go ahead by the Norwegian Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) to use the Fred Olsen semisubmersible Bideford Dolphin for drilling of two production wells, 30/9-J-15H/AH and 30/9-J-13AH, on Oseberg Sør.
Oseberg Sør was discovered in North Sea in 1984 and production from by operator StatoilHydro. The field is operated by Norsk Hydro.
Oseberg Sør is an oil field located South of Oseberg in the Northern part of the North Sea.
The sea depth in the area is approximately 100 meters.
The field has been developed with an integrated steel facility with accommodation, drilling module and first stage separation of oil and gas.
Additional deposits included in the Oseberg Sør field have been developed with subsea templates tied back to the Oseberg Sør facility.
Final processing of oil and gas takes place on the Oseberg Field Center. As of May 2003, the development of Oseberg Sør J structure was approved and production started in November 2006.
According to the consent application, start-up is due for January 2009 and drilling should take around 160 days.
As of March 2009, Norwegian StatoilHydro has hit pay with the 30/9-22 wildcat, drilled on the Katia prospect in Production Licence 104, south of the Oseberg field.
The well lies about 11 kilometres south-west of the Oseberg South platform in the North Sea. In a release, StatoilHydro said the well's proven recoverable volumes are between 50 million and 80 million barrels of oil equivalent, with the bulk of the resources occupying the Tarbert formation in the upper Brent group.
Oil and gas were found in the structure, while gas was also proven in Upper Jurassic reservoir rocks belonging to the Heather formation.
The head of StatoilHydro's North Sea infrastructure-led exploration stated that the find will probably be developed and produced through a tie-in to one of the existing subsea installations in this part of the North Sea.
Although the find has not been tested, extensive data gathering and coring have been carried out.
As of end May 2011, Statoil has closed the Oseberg oil and gas field in the North Sea for planned maintenance, the company has announced.
The plan is to resume production during the first half of June.
Oseberg is expected to load at a rate of 140,000 barrels per day in June, according to data compiled from trading sources.
