Project Status
Centrica aims to kick off drilling of its Cooper prospect in the Norwegian Sea shortly after getting the nod for the well from Norway’s Petroleum Safety Authority.
The Cooper well is scheduled to be drilled later this month.
The drilling operation has an expected duration of 76 days, depending on whether a discovery is made, with a maximum time-frame of 163 days including testing and a possible sidetrack.
The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate has granted Centrica Resources (Norge) AS a drilling permit for wellbore 6506/11-9 S, cf. Section 8 of the Resource Management Regulations.
The drilling programme for wellbore 6506/11-9 S relates to drilling of a wildcat well in production license 477.
The area in this license consists of block 6506/11. The well will be drilled about 7 kilometres east of the Morvin field.
Production license 477 was awarded on 29 February 2008 in APA 2007. This is the first well to be drilled in the license.
The permit is contingent upon the other permits and consents required by other authorities being granted before the drilling activity commences.
Faroe Petroleum reported that drilling has commenced on the Cooper prospect in the Norwegian Sea.
The exploration well will target the Cooper prospect located in PL477 in block 6506/11 on the Halten Terrace between the Smørbukk oil field, immediately to the east, and the Morvin oil field, to the west.
Cooper consists of an untested north to south trending fault block. The main reservoir objectives are the prolific Middle Jurassic Garn and Ile formations, which are the main producing reservoirs in the neighbouring Smørbukk and Morvin fields.(Topco)
