Project Status:
Gullfaks is located in the Tampen area in the northern part of the North Sea. The sea depth in the area is 130 to 220 metres.
The original PDO for the Gullfaks field included the Gullfaks A and Gullfaks B facilities. A PDO for the eastern section (Gullfaks C) was approved on 01.06.1985. The PDO for Gullfaks Vest was approved on 15.01.1993, and recovery from the Lunde formation was approved on 03.11.1995.
In December 2005, an amended PDO for the Gullfaks field was approved. This plan covers prospects and small discoveries in the area around Gullfaks which can be drilled and produced from existing facilities. With this plan, recovery of the resources in the area can be accomplished more efficiently in the future.
Production from Gullfaks is in the decline phase. A new project has also been initiated to evaluate necessary facility upgrades for lifetime extension towards 2030. Concept selection is planned for in the spring of 2008, while decision on implementation is expected in 2009.
As of April 2009, consulting subsidiary Granherne has been selected to take part in a conceptual study of StatoilHydro ASA's Gullfaks 2030 project to extend the production from the gas field. Work on the study commenced in April.
The Gullfaks field is in block 34/10 in the northern part of the Norwegian North Sea. Satellite fields Gullfaks South, Rimfaks, Skinfaks and Gullveig have been developed with subsea wells controlled from platforms in the Gullfaks field.
As of August 2009, FMC Technologies, Inc. announced that it has received an award from StatoilHydro for the manufacture and supply of subsea equipment for its Gullfaks oil and gas field in the Norwegian North Sea. The award has a value of approximately $73 million in revenue to FMC Technologies.
Deliveries will commence in the second quarter of 2010.
As of September 2009, Aker Solutions has landed a Nkr50 million ($8.5 million) job carrying out a front end engineering design (FEED) study for upgrading the drilling facilities at Gullfaks A.
The drilling upgrade is expected to extend the productive lifetime of the StatoilHydro-operated facility.
Work starts immediately and the FEED will be completed in April next year. (Topco)
