ANTRIM - North Sea Block 21/28a

Project Status:

As of November 2006, Antrim Energy Inc., which focuses on production, development and exploration of oil and gas assets in Argentina and the UK, has completed the acquisition of a 75% interest in Block 21/28a in the UK North Sea from Eni. 

Antrim paid US$8 Million to acquire the controlling interest and has agreed to pay an additional US$10 Million to Eni on approval of a Field Development Plan from the Department of Trade and Industry. Antrim assumed operatorship of the 101 km2 (25,000 acres) block as of November 9th, 2006. 

The Fyne and Dandy Oil Fields, discovered in 1987 and 1990 respectively, are situated in 90 meters (300 ft) of water approximately 160 km east of Aberdeen and 22 km from the Triton FPSO (floating production, storage, and offloading) vessel which provides production services for the nearby West Guillemot and associated fields. 

The acquisition of a controlling interest in the Central North Sea Block 21/28a provides Antrim with the opportunity to duplicate the successful strategy adopted at its Causeway property in Block 211/23d in the Northern North Sea, on which a single well recently tested 14,500 bopd.

As of March 2008, Antrim Energy Inc. announced that drilling has commenced on the Antrim-operated Fyne Field in the UK Central North Sea Block 21/28a.

Oil was also successfully tested from the Tay Formation in wells 21/28a-6 (1990) and 21/28a-8z (1998) in the adjacent Dandy Field which is situated 6 km to the southwest of Fyne on the same license. Beginning with Fyne, Antrim intends to appraise the previous discoveries as well as other prospects on the Block.

As of July 2008, Antrim Energy Inc. announced that the 21/28a-10 well on the Fyne field was successfully drilled by the semisub Transocean Prospect. These drilling results are similar to the Fyne discovery well 21/28a-2, which tested up to 3,600 bopd from 30 ft of reservoir section. 

The 21/28a-10 well is located in the western lobe of the Fyne Field. The results of this well, combined with the results of the successful 21/28a-9 and sidetracks and the previously drilled 21/28a-2 well, clearly demonstrates reservoir and structural continuity across the field and the significant extent of the oil accumulation.

As designed, and previously reported, the next phase of the operation will be to immediately drill a sidetrack to the southeast of this location. If the sidetrack is also successful, the new wellbore will be flow tested.

This additional drilling and testing operation is anticipated to take approximately three weeks to complete. (Topco)
