Project Status

As of early July 2011, Teekay has formally entered into an agreement with BG Group to supply an FPSO for the UK operator’s Knarr development off Norway.

The newbuild floating production, storage and offloading vessel will be built at South Korean yard Samsung Heavy Industries at a total project cost of $1 billion.

Knarr award was destined for a Teekay Petrojarl-Samsung pairing, which is also in line for a similar gig at Korea National Oil Corporation’s Western Isles project in UK waters.

The Knarr FPSO will have a maximum design production capacity of 63,000 barrels per day and is scheduled to come online during the first quarter of 2014.

It will be chartered by BG for a firm period of either six or 10 years plus extension options for a total period of up to 20 years.

Under the terms of the agreement, BG has until the end of 2012 to decide on the firm period of the charter contract.

The Knarr field (previously known as Jordbaer) is located in the Tampen area in the northern North Sea and is estimated to contain recoverable reserves of about 70 million barrels of oil equivalent, which could increase if drilling results from nearby prospects in the region prove to be successful.

As of late September 2011, FMC Technologies has won a $135 million contract to build subsea equipment for BG Norge.

The production equipment, which includes six control modules, five wellheads and two manifolds, will be used in the Knarr oil and gas field.

The agreement also includes three subsea production trees and three water injection trees. The components, whose delivery is expected in the spring of 2013, will be used in about 1320 feet of water.

Subsea 7 has scooped a $400 million contract from BG for the development project at the Knarr field off Norway.

The contractor is to provide engineering, procurement, construction and installation services at the project in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea.

Engineering and procurement work is to begin immediately with offshore operations set to be carried out between the summer of 2013 and spring of 2014.

Jul 2012 Subsea 7 wins BG job at Knarr (Topco)
