Project Status
As of July 2010, a consortium, including LUKOIL Overseas and Vanco International of the USA, has won a tender for exploration and development of two blocks, Est Rapsodia and Trident, in the Romanian sector of the Black Sea.
In accordance with the conditions of the bidding, LUKOIL Overseas is to sign a concession agreement with the National Agency for Mineral Resources of Romania within the next six months. An office of LUKOIL Overseas will be established in Romania to operate the project.
The blocks were awarded as part of the 10th licensing round, which was announced on 3 September 2009 by the National Agency for Mineral Resources (NAMR). The licensing round included 30 exploration blocks, with 12 located on the western border with Hungary and Serbia, seven onshore the eastern side and the remaining 11 offshore in the Black Sea. The bid closing date was 30 December 2009.
As of mid February 2011, Russia's biggest independent oil producer Lukoil stated that it has agreed to explore and develop the Trident deposit in the Romanian sector of the Black Sea.
Lukoil stated that it will carry out a 3D seismic study of this block.
As of late February 2011, a consortium, including Lukoil Overseas (a 100% subsidiary of Lukoil) and Vanco International signed a concession agreement with the National Agency for Mineral Resources of Romania. The agreement provides for exploration and development of the block Trident, in the Romanian sector of the Black Sea.
The 3D seismic acquisition survey, carried out by LUKOIL Overseas, LUKOIL’s subsidiary, is underway on Trident block in the Romanian Sector of the Black Sea.
Seismic operations are being carried out by geophysical services provider CGGVeritas, after it won the respective tender, and will be completed in November 2012. The planned scope of the survey will be up to 2,000 square kilometers.
The consortium was awarded the right to implement these projects as a result of the tender held in June 2010. Concession agreements for the blocks were signed in February 2011 and ratified by the Romanian Government in October 2011. An environmental impact assessment was carried out on the projects, public environmental hearings were held and required permits were obtained from state and local authorities.
