Eni is reported to be looking to spud a wildcat at its Salina prospect in the Barents Sea off Norway in June.
Drilling success could open up a new play that is believed to be on trend with both the Skrugard and subsequent Havis finds, with both Salina, also known as Pulk, in the south of the license and another prospect, Rauto, to the north.
Eni will first drill a pilot hole nearby to assess possible shallow gas or water volumes before sinking the main hole to a planned vertical depth of 2216 metres. Drilling is expected to take 54 days.
The company has lined up Saipem’s newbuild semi-submersible Scarabeo 8 for the job, as well as a subsequent well planned at its Bonna prospect in Eni-operated PL529, also in the Barents.
However, the troubled rig has recently been slapped with safety orders by Norway’s Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA), after being beset by technical problems during construction that have delayed operations by nearly three years from the original schedule.
Saipem has been given until the end of this month to address the issues raised by the PSA.
Before starting the drilling job for Eni, the rig has been chartered by Statoil to drill a well at its Odden prospect in the North Sea.
Lundin Petroleum has announced that its wholly owned subsidiary Lundin Norway has commenced the drilling of well 7220/10-1 in PL533 on the Salina Prospect (formerly referred to as Pulk) in the Barents Sea.
The well is located 54 km to the south west and on geological trend with the Skrugard and Havis discoveries. The main objective of the well is to prove the presence of hydrocarbons in the reservoir.
Lundin Petroleum AB (Lundin Petroleum), through its wholly owned subsidiary Lundin Norway AS (Lundin Norway) announced that exploration well 7220/10-1 in PL533 has discovered gas condensate in the Salina structure located on the west flank of the Loppa High in the Barents Sea.
Data acquisition in the well, including coring, wireline logging and fluid sampling, has proven good reservoir quality in the sandstone.
