STATOIL - North Sea Troll Field (License 085)

Project Status

As of July 2009, StatoilHydro ASA has been granted consent to use the mobile facility Polar Pioneer on the Troll field. The consent covers plugging, sidetrack drilling and completion of well 31/5-I-21 on the Troll field in the North Sea, production license 085.

According to the plan, the operation on the Troll field will start as soon as Polar Pioneer has finished its stay at the yard at Hanøytangen where it has been subject to a five-year classification and various modifications. The planned start on Troll is in July 2009, and the operation has an estimated duration of 135 days.

The facility was subject to main classification at Westcon in Olen in the autumn of 2004.

Upgrades were carried out during the stay at the yard to bring the facility in compliance with Statoil's (now StatoilHydro's) technical requirements for operations on the Snohvit field.

As of October 2009, Norwegian oilfield services company Aker Solutions has been awarded two contracts, valued at Nkr300 million ($54.2 million), by StatoilHydro to deliver subsea equipment to its Visund and Troll fields in the North Sea.

Both contracts are call-offs from existing frame agreements between StatoilHydro and Aker Solutions.

Final deliveries will be made in the first quarter of 2011.

On 24th December 2009, Statoil has received consent to use the Transocean Polar Pioneer semisub for production drilling on the Troll field. The consent relates to sidetrack drilling, completion and plugging of well 31/2-M-14, which is part of production license 085. 

The operation will start in December 2009 and has an estimated duration of up to 135 days.

As of January 2010, Norway's biggest gas field, Troll, is increasing output back up towards full production after shutting for a few hours due to a gas leak.

On 7th January 2010, Norway's huge Troll A gas platform resumed output about two hours after shutting and should be back to full output within a few hours.

As of 16th March 2010, Norway state-controlled Statoil will invest 20 billion Norwegian kroner ($3.41 billion) to boost oil recovery in the Troll field, also Norway's largest gas field. 

Statoil is also considering spending an additional 10 to 15 billion crowns on two new compressors for the Troll A platform and expects to make a final decision on that investment by the end of this year or next year.  

The investments already authorised, which include new wells and pipelines, aim to increase oil production at the site. (Topco)
