Project Status

As of March 2009, StatoilHydro has received consent to conduct exploration drilling in the northern part of the North Sea.

Well 30/9-23 is part of Production License 104 and is located about six kilometers east of Oseberg A.

According to the application for consent, start-up of drilling is planned for the beginning of May 2009.

Drilling operations have an estimated duration of 45 days.

As of August 2009, StatoilHydro has come up empty-handed after wildcat well 30/9-23, drilled in production license 104 in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea, failed to hit hydrocarbons.

The well will now be permanently plugged and abandoned.

As of March 2010, Statoil has identified four projects to be given fast-track status. The four projects contain recoverable reserves that have been estimated at more than 140 million boe.

Katla will be developed as a satellite of Oseberg Sør. The expected production start-up is at the end of 2012.

As of late September 2010, engineering giant FMC Technologies has signed a $75 million deal with Statoil to build and supply subsea production equipment for the Katla development in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea.

Katla, an oil and gas field in about 310 feet (95 metres) of water, is one of three options included in the previously announced Pan-Pandora project awarded to FMC in June.

The work will be done in FMC's facilities in Dunfermline, Scotland and Kongsberg, Norway with deliveries scheduled to start in the second quarter of next year.

As of mid November 2010, Subsea engineering contractor Subsea7 is set to start a $85 million deal for Statoil at the Katla field in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea.

Work on the engineering, procurement, installation and commissioning contract will start this month.

Field installation works will start during the second half of 2011 with pipeline fabrication starting in early 2012 at Subsea7's pipeline spoolbase in Vigra, Norway. Offshore pipeline installation and field installation operations are scheduled to kick-off in the first half of 2012 and will be carried out using ships from the Subsea7 fleet.

As of early May 2011, Statoil aims to invest Nkr5.4 billion ($1 billion) to bring online the small Katla discovery in the North Sea as part of its fast-track development programme.

Production start-up from the field, with estimated recoverable reserves of 45 million barrels of oil equivalent, is targeted for the first quarter of 2013, according to the operator's plan for development and operation (PDO) submitted to the Norwegian Oil & Energy Ministry.

Petroleum Safety Authority Norway has authorized Statoil to drill and complete a production well in the Norwegian North Sea.

The program should start in October and last 125 days.

Oct 2012 Statoil prepared next-phase drilling at Oseberg (Topco)
